CityU Academy for Seniors launches first course, stimulating creativity through floral art
The Academy for Seniors of City University of Macau (CityU), in collaboration with the “Obra das Mães” Integrated Services Centre for the Elderly at Praia do Manduco, recently co-organized a dried floral art workshop for Mother’s Day. The workshop was divided into two sessions, with the theme of “Spend Some Time on ‘Flowers’ for Her”. Wong U Wa, a floral art instructor, was invited to provide guidance.
During the workshop, Wong guided the elderly in selecting suitable dried flower materials and encouraged them to match colors and shapes according to their personal preferences, giving full play to their creativity to make their own dried flower decorative pieces. During the event, some of the elderly were accompanied by their family members, who participated in the design and production with them, sharing the joy of creation and stimulating interaction.
This workshop, through the handmade floral art works, not only stimulated the creativity of the elderly, but also helped to improve their concentration and coordination abilities, allowing them to showcase their talents, relax and have fun.
The Academy for Seniors of CityU was officially launched in March 2025. Upholding the concepts of “lifelong learning” and “social inclusion,” it is committed to providing a diversified learning and experience platform for senior citizens aged 55 or above, strengthening their sense of community belonging, promoting social interaction, and helping the elderly improve their life quality. Going forward, the Academy for Seniors will continue to cooperate with different social service institutions in Macao. Through a lifelong education curriculum and community service platform, it will promote the physical and mental health of the elderly, enhance their social participation, and help them realize their self-worth and happiness in the late life.
