National Business English Translation Test
The National Business English Translation Test (BETT) is organized by the National Business English Examination Office and the National Business English Professional Committee. BETT has its own assessment system, training system, competition system, training bases, and scholarship systems. It is a well-known language skills professional exam in China, focusing on the "foreign language + business + translation" comprehensive assessment concept. The exam aims to test candidates' ability to apply English in business environments, providing a continuous supply of high-quality business English translation talents for society and enterprises.
BETT has established eight provincial examination centers and nearly 200 authorized test sites across China. Many universities incorporate BETT into their curricula as elective courses, course replacement plans, or dual certification graduation requirements.
BETT is renowned for its comprehensive assessment of language skills, emphasizing practicality and professionalism. It provides a steady stream of high-quality business foreign language translation talents for society and enterprises.
The "BETT exam" includes written and oral translation forms. Upon passing, candidates receive corresponding certificates. The exam is divided into five levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced, translator, and senior translator.
Registration Requirements for Each Level:
Beginner: Able to engage in general business foreign language conversations, read and write business documents, communicate, and translate in foreign-related business offices; handle foreign affairs etiquette, reception, and hosting.
Intermediate: Able to interpret and translate during general business meetings and activities, read and write professional business letters, communicate, and accompany business trips for foreign-related enterprises.
Advanced: Proficiently use foreign languages for interpretation and translation in complex social and business environments, capable of handling professional business negotiations, document translation, professional business writing, presentations, and debates.
Translator: Able to perform complex interpretation and translation at large business conferences and handle full-time business foreign language translation work.
Senior Translator: Able to interpret and translate at various international conferences. Can perform consecutive and simultaneous interpretation; translate documents and professional materials for foreign affairs business meetings. Capable of handling complex translation and interpretation tasks at international business conferences and resolving various difficulties in business English translation.

The BETT exam aims to cultivate application-oriented specialists based on the practicality of business foreign languages. Candidates who pass the corresponding level exams can possess the following abilities:
Beginner: Engage in general business foreign language conversations. Capable of handling ordinary foreign-related business office reading, writing, communication, and translation; foreign affairs etiquette, reception, and hosting.
Intermediate: Interpret and translate during general business meetings and activities. Capable of handling professional business letters, reading, writing, communication, and business accompaniment for foreign-related enterprises.
Advanced: Proficiently use foreign languages for interpretation and translation in complex social and business environments. Capable of handling professional business negotiations, document translation, professional business writing, presentations, and debates.
Translator: Perform complex interpretation and translation at large business conferences and handle full-time business foreign language translation work.
Senior Translator: Interpret and translate at various international conferences. Exam Content:
The BETT exam emphasizes professionalism and practicality, primarily testing candidates' actual application abilities. The content covers business advertisements, business letters, letters of credit, product manuals, business reports, company introductions, business contracts/agreements, company charters, tourism, cross-cultural communication, macroeconomics, finance, e-commerce, marketing, insurance, and more.
