Academy for Seniors Celebrates Mid-Autumn with Diverse Activities

Since its founding, the Academy for Seniors has helped promote an inclusive society for seniors in Macau, strengthening partnerships between the university and local communities. For Mid-Autumn Festival, organized themed activities like “Handmade Scented Sachets” and “Warm Mid-Autumn—Sharing Cultural Heritage.” Together with the volunteers of City University of Macau, they visited multiple elderly comprehensive service centers to celebrate the festival with the elderly, promote cross-border collaboration, and advance the integration of the elderly and community development.

On October 6, 2025, which coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the Academy for Seniors held a "Handmade Autumn Welcome - DIY Sachets" event. The students gathered together and made sachets with Chinese herbal medicines such as mugwort and agastache by hand. While learning traditional culture and handicrafts, they also felt the strong atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival and promoted communication and emotional connection among each other.

In addition to offering a wide range of learning courses, the Senior College of City University of Macau also frequently organizes various cultural, social and activity events, striving to create a platform for the students of the Senior College to exchange ideas that are rich in both body and mind and full of joy and integration.

In addition, the Academy for Seniors continues to deepen the interaction and cooperation between university and community resources with the concept of "entering the community and serving the elderly". On the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival, in collaboration with volunteers from City University of Macau, visited the Caritas Enhui Elderly Comprehensive Service Centre, the Yijun Centre of the Federation of Neighbourhood Associations, and the Sheung Wan Elderly Comprehensive Service Centre of the Mothers' Association successively. They held a "Warm Mid-Autumn - Inheriting Intangible Cultural Heritage Together" handicraft workshop, where about 60 elderly people integrated the elements symbolizing "reunion" into unique foil fans.

As a traditional Chinese craft, the foils of the fan are mostly circular or nearly circular in shape, symbolizing "reunion", which is in line with the significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Through hands-on experiences, traditional festivals become warmer and more vibrant, and the beauty and blessings of the Mid-Autumn Festival culture are deeply conveyed to the hearts of every elderly person.

The Academy for Seniors continues to rely on the academic resources and social networks of the university to provide diversified learning courses and interactive experiences for the elderly aged 55 and above in Macau. With the concept of "Entering the community and serving the elderly",actively establish a multi-party collaboration platform. Through a variety of lectures, workshops and cultural activities, we promote the dissemination of knowledge and the social participation of the elderly, encouraging them to actively engage in social life, realize their self-worth and enjoy a fulfilling old age.
