Academy for Seniors Annual Program: Diverse Activities Enhance Elderly Life Quality

Since September, the annual curriculum of the Academy for Seniors at City University of Macau fully utilizes university and community resources to create a systematic program. Recently, the Academy arranged themed activities, including art workshops and first aid training, to provide a richer, more diverse learning platform for students. The Academy staff and students recently visited the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) and took part in the “Hi, What Did You Come For?” Art Workshop, where participants created collage artworks depicting “the city in their hearts” under the guidance of instructors.

To strengthen seniors’ ability to respond to sudden situations, the Academy specially invited an instructor from the Macau Red Cross School to deliver a “First Aid Knowledge Seminar for Seniors”. The seminar covered basic first aid techniques and how to handle common emergencies, aiming to improve seniors’ self-care knowledge. Participants engaged actively, discussing responses to common illnesses and important considerations with the instructor.

The Academy for Seniors focuses on lifelong learning and social inclusion. Since the September launch, it has offered practical courses on smart digital life, physical and mental health management, traditional Chinese medicine, and Macanese-Portuguese crafts. Using a combination of theory, practice, and presentation, the Academy empowers seniors with greater independence, digital literacy, and community belonging, supporting Macau’s efforts to build an inclusive society for seniors.
