ITTC Pre‑internship Training Series at CityU Macau Empowers Students’ Career Development
The International Training and Testing Center (ITTC) of City University of Macau recently organized a pre‑internship training series for students from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, aiming to strengthen their workplace readiness and career planning.
Overview of the training
From September to October 2025, ITTC collaborated with the Faculty of International Tourism and Management to deliver a series of talks covering occupational safety in the hotel and catering industry, interview and workplace communication skills, professional writing, and the meaning of internships and career planning.
The programme sought to comprehensively enhance students’ professional competence and competitiveness before they enter internships.
Occupational safety session
ITTC invited Ms. Ding Qianqin from the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government to share practical knowledge on occupational safety and health in the hotel and catering sectors.
Using real cases, Ms. Ding helped students understand that workplace safety involves both personal behaviour and organisational safety management, equipping them with prevention and response skills for their upcoming internships.

Interview and communication skills
To boost students’ confidence and performance in interviews and at work, ITTC invited Ms. Li Jianfei, an experienced educator and corporate trainer, to deliver talks on “Effective Interview Skills for the Workplace” and “Workplace Communication Skills and Cross‑departmental Collaboration.”
Through simulated interviews, emotional management exercises and communication models, Ms. Li guided students in building self‑confidence, adaptability and teamwork, helping them shape a positive professional image.
Professional writing workshop
Ms. Zhang Peihua led a session on professional writing, introducing the basic concepts, formats and features of commonly used official and business documents in Macao.
With in‑class practice, students improved their practical writing skills, learned to avoid common errors, and strengthened their ability to handle written work during internships.
Internship value and career planning
To deepen students’ understanding of internships and industry development, ITTC invited Ms. Tang Huiwen, who has worked in human resources at renowned hotels in Macao, Disney World and Maldivian resorts, to share her internship and career journey.
Ms. Tang, together with guest speaker Mr. Lai Yiqin from a well‑known hotel in Hong Kong, encouraged students to be proactive learners, use feedback to grow, and clarify their career direction to build a solid foundation for their future careers.
