The Academy of Seniors of CityU Macau Uses Diverse Board Games to Connect Seniors’ Childlike Hearts and Wisdom

The Academy of Seniors of City University of Macau has long upheld the mission of “entering the community and serving the elderly,” closely collaborating with various elderly service organisations in Macao to run diversified workshops.

Recently, staff from theAcademy of Seniors and the CityU Macau Volunteer Team visited the Southern District Baptist Social Service Centre and the Macao Federation of Trade Unions “Song Pak Home” (工聯松柏之家) to organise board‑game experience activities for 40 elderly participants.

Speaker and activity design

The activity invited Mr. Yu Kai‑yeui (余啟銳) from Drawer Studio Limited (劃者工作室有限公司) as the main facilitator, using board games as the core of the session.

Through interactive play, Mr. Yu turned the games into a bridge of memories, helping seniors recall childhood experiences and rediscover innocence and laughter.

Benefits of the board‑game activities

A variety of cognitive board games were used, including strategy games, interactive card games, adventure board games, numerical thinking games and dice‑balancing games.

These activities helped improve cognitive functions, language and memory training, hand‑eye coordination and concentration, allowing seniors to learn happily and supporting healthy ageing.

Ongoing goals of theAcademy of Seniors

TheAcademy of Seniors of City University of Macau aims to enrich seniors’ spiritual lives through relaxed and diverse activities and to promote active ageing.

It will continue to strengthen cooperation with Macao’s social service network to provide more learning and social platforms for the elderly.
