Deepening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Vocational Education Integration:
City University of Macau Hosts Innovative Talent Cultivation Training Programme

The International Training and Testing Center of City University of Macau, in collaboration with the Institute of Professional Education And Knowledge (PEAK) of Hong Kong’s Vocational Training Council, organised a professional training programme on 27–28 August for 20 teaching and administrative staff from Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Trade. Through thematic lectures, site visits and discussion sessions, the programme enabled educators and professionals from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to gain deeper insights into Macao’s practices in cultural heritage conservation, regional cooperation and talent development.

The training aimed to build a platform for exchange and cooperation in vocational education integration and innovative talent cultivation across the Greater Bay Area. Participants came from diverse faculties and departments, and the programme was positioned as a starting point for stronger collaboration in teacher training, programme development, talent cultivation and student growth, jointly advancing high-quality vocational education in the region.

The curriculum combined systematic lectures with practical visits. One lecture focused on Macao’s cultural heritage protection and exploration, covering concepts, techniques and practices of conservation and restoration from the perspectives of technological protection and sustainable development, including modern applications in monitoring, material analysis and scientific restoration. Another lecture examined the opportunities and challenges brought by the Belt and Road Initiative and Greater Bay Area development, highlighting Macao’s unique role as a bridge connecting mainland China, Portuguese-speaking countries and the international community.

To link theory with practice, participants visited the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform and the Macao Basic Law Memorial Hall. These visits allowed them to observe Macao’s achievements in promoting China-Portuguese trade and economic exchanges, enterprise services, exhibitions, cultural displays and talent training, as well as the successful implementation of the Macao Basic Law and the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, together with the city’s historical development. The programme thus provided a more comprehensive and multi-dimensional understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative, Greater Bay Area construction and Macao’s positioning.
