CityU Academy for Senior and Sin Meng Charity Association Explore New Pathways in Senior Services
The Academy for Seniors of CityU was officially launched in March 2025. Upholding the concepts of “lifelong learning” and “social inclusion,” Macau City University (CityU) has continuously coordinated with multiple local social service organizations to provide tailored workshops and courses for seniors.
Recently, CityU Academy for Seniors and Sin Meng Charity Association hosted a symposium aimed at understanding the practical needs of Macau’s seniors regarding lifelong learning and social engagement, fostering a collaborative effort toward building an age-friendly society where elders "live with security, belonging, and purpose."
The symposium engaged 22 seniors with an average age of 70. Acting Director Wu Yao-fen of International Training and Testing Center, highlighted the Academy for Seniors of CityU ’s role as a platform to connect senior service organizations across Macau, offering diverse learning and activity opportunities to enhance community belonging and social participation. Representatives from the Sin Meng Charity Association underscored the symposium’s importance in deepening understanding of seniors’ needs. They emphasized that the event laid a foundation for future collaborations with CityU to deliver more targeted services and activities.
The while discussions centered on seniors’ preferences regarding activity/content types, duration, and past engagement experiences, while also identifying their interests and needs.
