The City University of Macau's Academy for Seniors officially launched its academic-year courses in September 2025, creating a diversified learning platform for seniors. The program currently enrolls 24 local seniors aged between 55 and 75, responding actively to the Macau SAR Government’s focus on social and cultural policies for the elderly. Aiming to leverage university and community resources to offer rich learning opportunities that encourage lifelong education, improve quality of life, and promote social participation for seniors, fulfilling the vision of "learning, contributing, and enjoying in old age."
Vice President Professor Ip Guiping highlighted that the Academy for Seniors not only provides diverse learning options but also serves as a critical bridge between the university and society. This aligns with Macau’s elder policy goals of fostering active learning, social contribution, and joyful aging, while promoting social inclusion and intergenerational harmony.
The academic-year curriculum embraces the core principles of lifelong learning and social inclusion, covering areas such as smart digital skills, physical and mental wellness, Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, and Chinese-Macanese-Portuguese traditional crafts. The program aims to enhance seniors’ independence, encourage social interaction, support mental health, and strengthen community belonging and overall quality of life.
