CityU Macau Academy for Seniors Partners with Social Service Organizations for Mother’s Day Community Initiative
In alignment with the Macao SAR Government’s policies to promote "active aging" and advance elderly services, the Academy for Seniors of the City University of Macau (CityU) launched a Mother’s Day community initiative from April to early May 2026. Themed "In the Name of Love, Blooming with Warmth," the initiative integrated concepts of senior well-being to foster a caring and inclusive atmosphere across local communities.
Supported by student volunteers from CityU, the Senior Academy extended its outreach to eight local social service and elderly care centers, including facilities operated by the Women’s General Association of Macau, the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, Caritas Macau, and the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM), among others. The initiative successfully served over 410 elderly residents through interactive workshops and health seminars aimed at enhancing emotional care and life satisfaction.

Spreading Festive Joy Through Floral Art
To celebrate Mother's Day, the Senior Academy hosted a series of themed floral art workshops titled "Twisting Time, Offering Flowers to Mothers" for both its academy students and community seniors. Guided by instructors and student volunteers, participants crafted floral arrangements to express gratitude and fond memories of motherhood, bringing a warm, festive spirit to the community.
Integrating Mindfulness for Health and Well-being
The initiative also featured specialized seminars on mindfulness and wellness. Instructors introduced practical exercises and daily tips to help senior citizens cultivate present-moment awareness, manage stress, and regulate emotions. The sessions focused on helping seniors discover inner peace amid daily routines to boost their overall mental health and quality of life.
Since its establishment, the CityU Senior Academy has actively leveraged university resources to drive elderly education and social integration. Embracing the philosophy of "entering the community and serving the elderly," the Academy remains committed to building collaborative platforms that empower seniors to acquire new knowledge, engage with society, and enjoy a fulfilling, high-quality life in their golden years.
