Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications Students Visit CityU for In-service Training Courses to Jointly Cultivate Social Science and Technology Talents
On August 12, 2024, 22 students from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications visited CityU to participate in the "Artificial Intelligence and Information Security" related courses, which were planned by the Faculty of Data Science at CityU and the CityU International Training and Testing Center, to further deepen the educational exchange and connection between the two schools and jointly cultivate social science and technology talents.
Building a Platform for Mutual Exchange
At the beginning of the course, Associate Professor Liu Wenjian, Vice President of the School of Data Science at CityU, represented CityU and welcomed the teachers and students from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications for their first visit. He hoped that everyone would gain a new understanding of the application of knowledge in the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, and information security through interaction and exchange with CityU's mentors. By visiting relevant industries in Macau, they can truely experience and understand the application and development of course content in practical industries. At the same time, with the launch of this training project, further deepen the educational exchange and connection between the two schools, and build a bridge for resource sharing to jointly cultivate scientific and technological talents for society, gradually building a platform for mutual exchange.
Subsequently, Teacher Lu Ying from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, representing the trainee students, thanked CityU for the planning and arrangements of the course. She encouraged the 22 trainee students to broaden their international horizons and enrich their understanding of the cutting-edge developments in data science through this training course planned jointly by the two schools. She also encouraged the students to apply the knowledge they have learned in the interaction process with CityU's mentors to their future personal growth and professional development paths.
Course Implementation
The course began with Professor Sun Xin from the Faculty of Data Science at CityU, who discussed the first topic of "The Current Status, Challenges, Trends, and Applications of Artificial Intelligence," exploring with the trainee students how the development of artificial intelligence drives industry innovation and transformation. He cited several cases to explain the future development trends of artificial intelligence, including the progress of cutting-edge technologies such as machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, and the process how they will shape our future society.
Institutional Visits
Same day, in the afternoon, the center arranged for students to visit the power plant of the Electric Power Company in Hac Sa, Coloane, to understand the operation, power generation mode, and future development of the power industry in Macau. They learned about the operation of the Electric Power Company and the power eneration mode in Macau, with a close look at some of the main devices in the power plant, such as the giant power generation units, transformers, and control rooms. During this period, the Electric Power Company also arranged for engineers to discuss the electricity industry, power supply in Macau, and future development with the students.
Course Planning
This course combined the characteristics of the courses of the Faculty of Data Science at CityU, with content focusing on the application of artificial intelligence, data science, information security, and related knowledge. Meanwhile, these arrangements were made to visit the Macau Telecommunications Company, the Macau Youth Entrepreneurship Incubation Center, and the Macau Network Security Incident Early Warning and Emergency Center to understand the development of relevant industries in Macau and the application of technology, and to have in-depth exchanges with industry experts, further consolidating the knowledge mastered by the students in the classroom and enhancing their professional skills.
