CityU Academy for Senior deepens University–community collaboration to advance the construction of a localized elderly service network
Since its inception, the Academy for Senior of City University of Macau has actively embraced the core vision of the SAR Government’s Ten-Year Action Plan for Elderly Services. By forging close partnerships with a range of local elderly social-service organisations and integrating the strengths of the University itself, the Academy is helping to build an age-friendly and inclusive society. Recently, it joined hands with the elder service center to launch the “Easy-Breathing Wellness Workshop for Seniors,” an event attended by Legislative Assembly members . Their participation strengthened collaboration among the community, government, and higher-education sectors, further expanding health-promotion services for older adults and driving these initiatives to broader and deeper levels.
The Academy for Senior invited local physiotherapists to lead participating seniors through a step-by-step programme that teaches correct breathing techniques and rhythms. The training not only strengthens lung capacity but also relieves stress and balances emotions, fostering the calm and equilibrium essential to healthy ageing.
Vice Rector of CityU, Professor Ip Kuai Peng, joined the session in person, practising alongside the seniors and demonstrating the institution’s tangible care and support for older adults. His presence reaffirmed the University’s social-responsibility pledge and further deepened the bond between higher education and the wider community. The Academy for Senior will continue to join forces with community partners, offering more health-promotion services and interactive workshop-style lectures for older adults. In supporting the government’s vision of an inclusive society, the Academy is committed to ensuring that every senior can enjoy a healthy, joyful and dignified later life, thereby contributing the University’s expertise to the Healthy Macao Blueprint.
