1. Introduction
Wine courses for beginners. For individuals new to wine study, this qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately and make food and wine pairings.
2. Course Outline
Wine Identification: Through visual observation, recognize the color and clarity of wine; through olfactory senses, identify its rich aromas; and through taste, appreciate its mouthfeel and flavor.
Types of Wine: List common grape varieties used in winemaking and their characteristics.
Wine Tasting: Use the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting® (SAT) to describe wines.
Wine Pairing: Pairing wine with appropriate foods is an important skill that enhances your wine tasting experience.
3. Course Structure
4 sessions, including 6 hours of instruction, 1 hour of review, and 45 mins for the certification exam.
Language of Instruction: Chinese (Mandarin), supplementary English.
Assessment Method: 1 hour Closed-book exam consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions, passing score is 70%. After the exam is graded by WSET and a passing grade is achieved, students will receive the "WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines Certificate and Badge.
**Please be aware that the course includes the wine tasting component, and it is recommended that students assess their own physical condition.
